How to change the distance between the Nullarbor straps

Hi! It's Leila here!

One of the most important features of the Nullarbor Cami and Dress is that it covers your bra straps! Shoulders, chests, and bras do vary though, so you might find that your cami isn't quite sitting right on top of your straps. This is how to adjust the pattern so it's a perfect fit!

Using this method preserves the overall size of the garment. Although I have illustrated the Front piece, you can use the same procedure for the Back.

This is the original piece:

Narrowing the distance between the cami straps

First, let's cover how to narrow the distance between the cami straps. You'll do this if the cami straps fall off your shoulders (i.e. they are too far apart) or the cami straps are further apart than your bra straps.

    1. Try on your cami muslin/toile and determine the distance that each strap needs to move.
    2. Slash the pattern vertically, once between the centre front and strap opening, and once in the armhole

    3. For this example, let's say you need to deduct 1" from each side of the front piece. Overlap the centre pieces by 1" and tape. Redraw neckline and hem

    4. Place your pattern piece over some scrap paper. Tape the side piece down into position, leaving a 1" gap between the pieces. Redraw the armhole, hem, and dart, as shown

      5. That's all there is to it! Cut out your new front piece!

Increasing the distance between the straps
Sometimes you need the straps further apart. You may have broader shoulders or chest or perhaps your bras tend to have wide set straps (e.g. balconette style bras). Here is how you do that adjustment.

    1. Try on your cami muslin/toile and determine the distance that each strap needs to move.
    2. Slash the pattern vertically, once between the centre front and strap opening, and once in the armhole

    3. For the purposes of this tutorial, let's say you need to increase the width between the straps 1" on each side. Place your pattern piece over some scrap paper. Tape the centre pieces down into position, leaving a 1" gap between them. Redraw the neckline
    4. Overlap the side piece by 1" and tape down. Redraw the armhole, dart, and hem, as shown
    5. That's all there is to it! Cut out your new front piece!
