Designed for comfort
We designed these with no side seam and an arched gusset to eliminate a seam between the thighs. The top features soft, soft boxer elastic for comfort and security and there is no elastic in the legs to prevent digging or sausaging.
This pattern can be constructed entirely on a home sewing machine and doesn't require a serger/overlocker. The construction is unfussy and fast so you can quickly fill a drawer full of these comfie undies!
Supplies for the Dulcie
Perhaps you spotted out custom M&B elastic? We're super excited about this super stretchy, super soft knitted elastic which we had made locally in New Zealand. We're thrilled to be partnering with Nellie Joans to make the elastic available to you!
Nellie Joans also has some fabrics in stock which would be perfect for the Dulcie and has Dulcie Kits available on pre-order here. The kits come in 4 shades, including the 2 blue shades pictured in this blog post.
This pattern is designed to be sewn with knit fabrics, with at least 70% stretch both vertically and horizontally (4-way stretch). Performance fabrics and fabrics with different stretch could work too, but the sizing might need to be altered to compensate for the change in stretch and compression.
Wearing the Dulcie
We love these as everyday undies and as chub rub shorts where you don't need to wear undies underneath.
When talking about what we wanted from this pattern, we both shared a strong dislike for RTW chub rub shorts which are almost entirely polyester or other plastic fibre. We find them to be intensely sweat inducing, and had no luck finding natural fibre shorts to buy. Of course, now we don't need to.
We'll be layering these under dresses and skirts, but also under pants for ultimate comfort.
